The Concept

"Lizzy and the Lizzards Sing it Like it IS" is a fun, funky, and functional childrens' music concept with four main goals:
  • to encourage communication and together-time between kids and grown-ups through music, lyrics and illustrations.
  • to help kids cope with emotions and learn new things by singing about them.
  • to expose kids to different musical genres and aid in their development at the same time.
  • to stimulate movement by getting up and dancing!
The Concept
"Lizzy and the Lizzards Sing it Like it IS" involves lead singer (and self-proclaimed über-diva) Lizzy and her band of musically-gifted chameleons, Ike, Spike, Sasafrass and Oscar. Yes, they are cold-blooded reptiles, but they are warm at heart, and they change music style as often as they change colour - which is a lot! Lizzy's motto is: Why say it, when you can sing it? She sings songs about kids, from a kids' perspective, that grown-ups will undoubtedly enjoy too!

The themes cover a wide variety of situations for kids from 5-10 years of age.

What it's really all about:

This concept is about setting in motion a positive cycle of respect, communication and expression through music and singing. In these videos, called "Growing Back into Music" parts 1 and 2, I talk about the importance, the benefits, and the how-tos of integrating music into everyday life.

This idea also addresses, aids, and conquers three issues in particular:

Addressing "Together Time"
These days, kids and parents have a lot on their plates. As a Mom, I know how hard it is sometimes to find the time to just be together with my kids.  "Lizzy and the Lizzards Sing it Like it IS" is designed to encourage bonding and communication through music and singing. It's all about the making a shared experience a priority and quality time together.

Aiding Development
What do parents want more than anything else? That their kids are happy, healthy and devloping well. What do kids want more than anything else? Same thing. Well, guess what?! Music is good for you! Studies show that exposure to music helps develop the left side of the brain, which is also used for developing language skills. Singing and making music together stimulates teamwork. Learning to play a musical instrument helps develop things like self-discipline and motor coordination! But perhaps most importantly, music comes naturally to children - kids learn new things and communicate feelings by singing about them!

Conquering Obesity
Another extremely important issue with kids today is obesity. If there's one truism about music and children, it's that if they hear music, they're going to want to dance to it. It's instinctive! With recent studies showing that obesity in kids (due to lack of movement and stimulation) can not only lead to things like diabetes and heart problems, it can even result in dementia! Kids need to get off the couch, away from the computer, put the gameboy away and get moving again!
